Congratulations!!! We are so very excited for you and we know you are gearing up to get all the things done. Just in case everything is swirling around in your mind and you can’t quite focus or zone in on what to start with, we put a list together for you.
10 things to do once he puts a ring on it

1. Tell your family and closest friends
This is extremely exciting news. The joining of your two families is something to celebrate and doing that with those who love you both so very much can only be a recipe for ultimate euphoria. Besides you want to be sure you tell them before the internet does and the longer you wait, the more of a chance you take at it being an oops than an aww.
2. Set a budget
Once you know who will be paying for what, whether it is you and your fiancé, or the both of you with assistance from parents, you want to set a budget. There is nothing, literally, that you can accomplish without knowing how much you can actually do. Setting a budget gives you the understanding of what you can say yes and no to when you begin the planning process. The only people that can tell you how much your wedding will cost are those contributing financially. Now, whether you can get everything your heart desires depends on what is in your heart. But you can’t know that until you know your limits financially.
3. Decide on your guests list
You want to see what you will actually be working with as far as the number of people to possibly attend this epic celebration. In order to do that, you have to sit down and put pen to paper (or fingers to keys) and create a list. You want to be sure you not only list persons, but their spouses and if children will be invited, them as well. Every single person will need to be counted because they will need to be seated, feed, and a list of so many other things.
4. Decide on a season and pick a date, and then 2 other dates just in case
The season you choose for your wedding day should be special for you and your fiancé. Choosing a wedding date can be a bit more tricky only if you aren’t flexible with the date. Your key factors in determining your date should be specific to the things that matter most for your wedding. For instance, if the facility you daydream about is available during your favorite season of the year, you are winning. However, if the photographer is more important to you than the facility and it will make or break your happily ever after, you may want to consider a date change.
5. Hire a planner, or at least a coordinator
If you aren’t already engrossed in the world of wedding planning, you will be soon. There is no reason you should have to go at this adventure all alone. There will be so many things, thoughts, people, and questions to come at you when you first get engaged. You will eventually believe that you have to do everything that everyone is asking you about, because everyone else is obviously a subject matter expert (that’s sarcasm). Don’t start this process out overwhelmed. Hire a planner, or at the very least a wedding coordinator. A wedding planner will help you navigate through the entire process. You shouldn’t have to figure everything out on your own, and if you start the process early with the help of planner you will at least know how to respond to those interested in your upcoming nuptials.
6. Define your wedding style (figure out what is pretty to you)
Defining your wedding style has a lot to do with who you are. Those things you like most, color schemes, whatever attracts you is a part of your style. Implementing your style into your wedding is natural. Figure what you like, because it will be the best way to determine what you will need and the direction you will want to take for the look and feel of your wedding day.
7. Go venue shopping
When you get engaged, especially if it is during a very popular engagement season, you will not be the only person shopping for those vendors that are in the highest of demand. One of those vendors will be your venue. Once you have defined your wedding style and you know the number of people you plan to invite, the choice in venue should be easier to determine for you. You will need to base your final decision on what the venue offers, but the only way to know more about what that will be is to go to those venues and ask plenty of questions.
8. Choose a photographer
Just like an ideal venue will be in high demand, so will a great photographer. If one of things you want to be able to do is look back on your wedding day for years to come, you want to be sure you invest in the best of the best. A great photographer can capture moments you didn’t even know were seen.
9. Start shopping for the style of wedding gown that will be perfect for you
There are a few vendors you will book that will be interested in your wedding day look, such as your wedding florist or designer, your hairstylist, and your makeup artist. Having this information to share with them can only help to enhance the anticipated beauty of the day. Plus, once you see yourself in a few dresses you see more of what you like and don’t like, and the process of planning becomes ever more real.
10. Take your engagement photos
You can easily officially announce your engagement to the rest of the world and get to know your wedding day photographer all at one time. Taking your engagement photos after you get engaged gives you a chance to capture a moment of new excitement together. It is the beginning of what is to come.
We hope these agenda items have put some things in perspective for you and will give you a great start to the planning of your happily ever after. If you find yourself in need of additional assistance, wedding planners are experts and can walk you through the process. Just give us a call.
Until next time…
be sweet & happy planning!
