Do you eat with your eyes? We often equate something meant for consumption that looks appetizing or pretty to tasting good. At the very least, we hope it “tastes as good as it looks.” Now imagine being a cake designer and having the exciting job of making sure your creation is not only delicious but is also a true work of art. We wanted to share a few tips with you on where you should start with selecting your cake designer.

Level of importance
The first thing you want to decide is how important a wedding cake is to you. If you and your fiancé aren’t “cake” people, then you may not need a 5-tier wedding cake. Your wedding is for you to celebrate with your guests, but it is still a representation of the two of you. Now, if you do love cake then you will need to determine how deep this love goes. Along with that, your cake designer is going to want to know how much you want to spend and how many of your guests you are intending to serve.
Taste
The taste and flavor of your cake will be just as important as the taste of your food. The amount of energy you put into your wedding menu will need to be kept for the cake tasting. Also, if we alarmed you with the word tasting then we are so glad you caught it. All flavors are not made equally. We have had our far share of tastings with client and our favorite cake designers, and we can tell you couples don’t always choose the flavors they initially had in mind. If you can get a tasting with your cake designer, we suggest you take full advantage of it. It is a for sure way to know that you won’t have to box up any left over cake at the end of the night.
Skill and creativity
Food is art. Period. We believe the enthusiasm surrounding this spark of creativity is the challenge and attempt to personalize cake for every celebratory occasion. Whether or not your desired design is a towering multi-tier masterpiece or a simple 2 tiered naked cake, you will still have to put in a little work to be sure you hire the right designer. Once you have homed in on your style and preference for design, you will want to do a little research to locate some inspiration. The best way to describe to anyone the ideas you have in mind is with pictures, even if you have to use multiple photos to describe what you want. After you have your inspiration, you then want to begin the hunt for the ideal cake designer. You will know when you have found the right one, because their work will jump out at you.
Some people come to the wedding with their initial thought of excitement being about the wedding cake. We know to you that might sound crazy because you have been laser focused on all of the details regarding your wedding, but it is true. Guests love to see it as much as they love to eat it. So be sure you take into account the tips we have shared in the post. We are sure they will help with securing and finalizing the details of your wedding cake.
Until next time…
be sweet & happy planning!
