A wedding designer is the person who will be responsible for the look and feel of your wedding day. A wedding designer can be someone who pieces all of the details of the design together and brings in the vendors needed to produce the job. They can be the person who designs the flowers and all of the other aesthetics for the day. They can very well be a person who does it all. Because this is a creative industry, there are a few lanes when it comes to design services. The best thing to do is figure out what you need and be sure the person you are hiring provides that service.

If you want something that is truly specific and representative of you and your soon-to-be, there are some things you will need to know before you can get specifics from the designers you want to contact. These things are the foundation for how the designer will build a proposal for you that will contain a quote for their services. We are sharing a few details we consider necessary to have available once you are ready to move forward on obtaining a quote.
Your Date
There isn’t much information any wedding vendor can share with a potential client without a date. Your date needs to be known because of vendor availability. You can’t book services with a vendor unless they know when you will need their services. Another reason your date is so important is because certain flowers are seasonal. This means if you have your eye on a particular bloom, you are definitely going to need to know what date, or more specifically, what time of year you want to have your wedding. This will allow the designer to not only inform you of availability, but in the case of your choice in flower not being available, offer some beautiful alternatives.
Color Scheme
We can start with as little as one color and build on what you want for your wedding color scheme. You don’t have to have it all figured out. However, we cannot start at zero. Don’t worry about what you think will look great together. You can share with your designer what you like and a well-versed designer can share with you what colors complement one another well and build from there.
Venue
Knowing the venue and the layout of your chosen space will allow the designer to dream up a one-of-a-kind fairytale specific for you. You also want to know the allowances of the venue before you solidify the details of the design, as some places only allow specific things like flameless candles. Knowledge of the space and how well it will work for setting up those grand statement pieces you want as a part of your day is going to be of great necessity. The difference between thousands of dollars could easily be knowing whether your designer has to start from scratch or if they can build onto what is already in place.
Guest Count
The number of guests will make a big difference in your total amount spent for your wedding. You may already know this to be true as it relates to food, but it can also play a huge part in your décor as well. Every table will need a centerpiece. Even if the centerpieces are different, it will still cost. Knowing your guest count is a detail your designer will need to know in order to provide you with the specifics you are needing as it relates to costs.
Number in Your Wedding Party
Your designer will be providing personal flowers for your wedding party. Just like your guest count, the number of wedding party members is a key factor in getting the details you need from your designer. This does not stop and start with your bridesmaids and groomsmen. It goes to parents, grandparents, honored guests, and more. Anyone who will be a part of your ceremony, not including your wedding vendors, will need to be discussed as it relates to personal flowers.
So, there you have it. Having the bare minimum of all that has been suggested would be enough to get the ball rolling on getting the information that you are wanting. Don’t feel as though you have to have it all figured out. Just be sure you have enough to start.
Until next time…
be sweet & happy planning!
