Choosing the groom’s attire is a pretty big deal. Darius, my husband and the other half of this husband and wife team, loves to remind the brides, as well as myself, of how the groom got this party started with the proposal. Seeing as how he is pretty essential to the celebration, it is only right that we give an abundance of attention to the vetting of his attire in this process as well. Searching for the groom’s attire does call for a few things to be kept in mind.
First Things First
The first thing to keep in mind is the style of the wedding. A beautiful bride in a gorgeous ball gown and a handsome groom in a nice wool suit does not look as complimentary of one another as you might hope. The groom’s attire should complement the style and theme of the wedding just as much as the bride’s attire. They are representatives of one another. So, if it’s a formal evening wedding, a tuxedo would be appropriate. If it’s a beach wedding, a more casual linen suit would be more suitable.

Here’s Something Else
Another thing you want to be sure you take into account is the season in which the wedding will take place. The time of year can influence so much as it relates to the groom’s attire. The choice of fabrics and colors for the groom’s attire play a pretty big part, as well as availability. In fact, availability is something we have experienced to be a bit more difficult since COVID, and is still something we keep top of mind when addressing attire.
Lastly
Coordinating with the rest of the wedding party is also quite essential. The groom’s attire would be the perfect finishing touch to the entire wedding party. Coordinating with the bridesmaids’ dresses and the overall color scheme of the wedding isn’t a terrible idea and can cause the entire wedding party to look magazine ready. Accessories such as ties, pocket squares, cufflinks, and shoes can add so much to the color scheme.

At the end of the day, you want to be sure you choose a comfortable and well-fitted outfit. The same way the bride takes into consideration how comfortable her dress will be after several hours of wearing it, you want to make sure to choose an outfit that fits well and is made of comfortable materials. Wedding days are long, and you want to look and feel good the entire day. Following these tips can help the groom choose an outfit that will look dapper, complement the entire wedding, and make him feel confident and comfortable on his big day.
Until next time…
be sweet & happy planning!
